About Alaska Container Sales
Why Shipping Containers?
Shipping containers are durable, structurally sound, and designed to hold up in any weather. You can be confident that your storage container will be safe to store your valuable goods not only safely but securely for years to come, even in the harshest Alaskan winters. Whether it is job site tools and construction materials or your riding lawnmower and 4-wheeler, a container is the right choice for your storage needs! These retired shipping containers can come alive again and be a great asset for you!
Retired containers can be re purposed for either commercial or personal use. We have the largest supply of shipping containers here in Alaska and can sell or rent you one or 20 containers – it just depends on what you need. Buying a container which is located close to your final use is important because the cost of moving a unit over long-distances could become impractical especially here in Alaska! For this reason, Alaska Container Sales has the ability to transport your container(s) to your location anywhere in the state and will assist you in finding the correct container to meet your needs. We have them in all sizes and can even customize to your liking!
Developed to withstand the heavy abuse of ocean travel and consistent movement, Cor-Ten steel offers a self-protective quality. Opposed to traditional steel, when Cor-Ten steel is exposed to the elements it creates a skin of rust, which actually acts as a rust inhibitor.
The shipping container was designed with transportation in mind. With multiple lifting points and a rigid steel frame, containers can be craned, fork lifted or flown into almost any location.
These life size lego blocks are commonly stacked in shipping yards up to 9 units high, fully loaded. Whether for interim storage or for a smaller footprint, the structural integrity of shipping containers makes saving space simple.
Unlike traditional wood structures, a modified container can be refurbished and re-purposed, even after many years in the field.
Weather Proof and Secure
Equipped with steel locking arms and heavy duty rubber gaskets, our boxes are completely sealed from the elements and come with a lock box to protect from break ins.
Shipping Container Dimensions and Specifications
Shipping containers come in standard dimensions of 10 foot, 20 foot, and 40 foot. The 40 foot long container is the most common. The 20 foot long container is less common, yet still considered a standard size. Ten foot containers are more specialized and not as readily available. Standard shipping containers do have variations: High Cube containers add one foot of height; insulated and refrigerated containers are also available. Custom lengths, heights and door openings can be special ordered. These general characteristics should be considered when contemplating using a container for a project.
These containers are made of corrugated steel and have wooden decking on the inside. The floors are generally treated with international shipping standards, and will have varying degrees of damage based on condition.

Modifying Shipping Containers
Shipping containers are built with doors opening on one end and are solid in the top, bottom, sides, and the end opposite of the doors. This is part of the structural integrity of the container. Care needs to be taken when modifying the container and the final use must be considered. A qualified engineer should be consulted when making major modifications to a container.
